Teacher accused of DWI following alleged evasion of arrest

Attempting to evade a traffic stop can increase suspicion of criminal activity. Individuals who try to avoid or outrun authorities while driving often face severe consequences and additional charges after the chase ends. A teacher is now facing multiple charges, in addition to DWI accusations, after an alleged police chase in North Carolina.

Just after midnight on a recent Saturday, police claim to have come upon a driver that appeared to be intoxicated. After attempting to initiate a traffic stop, they assert that the driver began to flee, eventually running through a traffic light. Stating an inability to pursue her for safety reasons, they say they deployed spike traps in her path that slowly deflated her tires, allowing them to stop the vehicle and arrest the woman.

She reportedly remains in custody and is facing multiple charges in relation to the alleged incident, including driving while intoxicated, eluding and resisting arrest and reckless driving. A conviction for similar charges would impact various areas of her life, personal and professional alike. According to reports, she has already been suspended from employment within the school system while charges are pending.

Those who are accused of DWI and reckless driving face various consequences should a conviction result, such as a criminal record and suspension or revocation of driver's license, and even time behind bars. When facing such potentially devastating outcomes, many individuals in North Carolina choose to retain the services of an experienced attorney. A defense attorney can evaluate the charges against a client, advise him or her of the possible consequences and assist in pursuing the most favorable outcome possible given the circumstances.
