1 accused of DWI after slamming into guardrail in North Carolina

An individual can use the camera on a phone for a variety of purposes. While many may choose to record personal videos and important moments, others may use these devices to record activity that they deem suspicious. A man in North Carolina has been taken into custody and is facing DWI charges after an alleged collision that is said to have been recorded by someone nearby.

According to reports, the video allegedly shows a driver exhibiting erratic behavior and narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic before eventually smashing into a guardrail. The person holding the camera asserts that he or she placed a call to authorities shortly before beginning to record. Authorities responded to the scene and reportedly transported the man to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities assert that the man had allegedly taken an illegal substance and was impaired at the time of the crash. They also claim that he admitted to being completely unaware of how he got to the scene. It is unclear how police came to believe illegal drugs to be a contributing factor, and there are many possible reasons, such as a medical condition, that a person may exhibit such erratic driving behavior.

DWI charges are serious in nature and have severe consequences should a conviction be obtained. Those who are accused of impaired driving may wish to protect themselves by challenging the charges, but the process can be complex. When facing a similar situation, a person in North Carolina could speak with an experienced attorney for advice on how to proceed. An attorney can evaluate the charges against a client and assist in pursuing the most favorable outcome possible during court proceedings.
