Man Facing Dwi Charges After Alleged Hit and Run Causing Death

Many individuals have noticed others constantly hanging out on the side of the road with signs indicating a need for assistance. In some cases, remaining near traffic for extended periods can be dangerous, especially during the early hours of the morning when visibility is restricted. A 25-year-old man is currently facing DWI charges after he allegedly hit a man who was holding a sign for help in North Carolina. The victim apparently died shortly thereafter.

Police assert the incident occurred sometime around 3 a.m. on a recent Friday. Upon arrival, they claim to have discovered the man lying in the road, and apparently found a panhandling sign nearby. An investigation into the incident allegedly discovered that the man had been struck by a vehicle, which allegedly fled the scene shortly thereafter. The man, who reportedly had seven previous violations for solicitation on record, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities located and arrested a suspect later on, who they claim was unwilling to cooperate. He is facing multiple charges in relation to the alleged incident, including DWI and hit and run, along with felony charges for death by vehicle. No information was given as to how authorities connected him with the incident or how they came to believe he was intoxicated at the time.

DWI charges carry severe consequences, especially if a death is involved, and a conviction could have a significant impact on the future of an accused individual. When accused of similar crimes, an individual could choose to speak with a defense attorney for guidance. An attorney in North Carolina can thoroughly evaluate the incident in question and provide a client with advice on the best course of action with which to proceed.
